This article shows you how to add, manage, and remove linked templates — typed relationships that let automations route orders from one template to a sibling (for example, a print version) without hard-coding the connection in each integration.
What a template link is
A linked template is a named pointer from one template to another. You give the link a label — a short role name you choose, like Print PDF — and pick the target template from your library. The label has no special meaning inside Templified itself; it's the key that Zapier actions and partner integrations use to look up which sibling to render for an order.
A single template can hold multiple links (one per label), so a 5×7 preview template can point to both a print PDF sibling and a wallet-size sibling under different labels.
What they're used for (an example)
The most common use is print fulfillment. Say you sell a 5×7 plaque: the customer sees and orders a 5×7 preview design, but what you actually print is a separate two-page, print-ready PDF. Rather than wiring "this preview → that print file" into every order, you link the 5×7 template to the PDF template once, under a label like Print PDF.
When an order for that 5×7 comes in on GFcrew/Pro, the automation hands Templified the label Print PDF and Templified renders the linked PDF for printing — not just the 5×7. Swap in a new print layout later by re-pointing the link, and every future order uses it with no change to your Zaps. Other handy uses: a "wallet" link for wallet-size prints, or a "social" link for a square crop of the same design.
Open the Linked templates panel
- Open the template you want to link from in the editor.
- Click the gear icon (⚙) in the editor header to open Template settings.
- Scroll past Canvas size and Quick Design template to the Linked templates section at the bottom of the popover.
The Linked templates section only appears when you're editing a template — it's hidden in Studio design mode, where changes would mistakenly affect the source template rather than the design.
Add a link
- Click Add link. A new row appears with a label field and a target picker.
- Type a label in the text field — for example,
Print PDForwallet. Labels are free-form; use whatever name your automation will reference. Labels must be unique within the template. - Click Pick target template… to open the target picker. Type to search by template name or folder. Select the template this link should point to. A template cannot be linked to itself.
- Click Save to write all rows. The panel stays editable until you save.
Repeat steps 1–3 to add more links before saving — one Save writes all rows at once.
Remove a link
- In the Linked templates panel, find the row you want to delete.
- Click the × button on the right of that row to remove it.
- Click Save to confirm the deletion.
Removing a link does not affect either template's layers or any designs already created. It only removes the pointer that automations use to look up the sibling.
What happens if the target template is deleted
If a target template is soft-deleted after a link is saved, the row shows a warning: "Target template was deleted — pick a new one or remove this row." The link won't resolve in automations until you either pick a new target or remove the row and save.
Using links in automations
Template links are consumed by Zapier actions and partner integrations. The automation supplies the label you chose here, and Templified resolves which target template to render. This lets you update the print sibling — say, swap in a new layout — without touching the Zapier Zap: just update the link in Template settings.
