This FAQ answers the most common billing question: which actions actually deduct from your balance, and which are free. The short version — you pay when a fresh image is produced, and never twice for the same one.
What's billed
Does every render cost money?
Every fresh render does — that is, each time Templified produces a new finished image. It doesn't matter where you start it from: rendering a design in Studio, sending to Dropbox or a webhook or a print partner, building a Quick Design contact sheet, or calling the API or Zapier. Each new image is one render charge of 4.4¢.
When does the Background Removal surcharge apply?
The 10¢ Background Removal surcharge applies only when a photo is actually processed — the first time a photo runs through Background Removal. Once a photo has been processed, every later use of it (re-rendering, dropping it into another template, batch fan-out) reuses the saved result for free. You're never charged twice for processing the same photo.
Do Quick Design contact sheets count?
Yes — each sheet produced is a render, billed like any other. If your selection spills into multiple sheets, each sheet is one render.
What about partner print copies?
Some partner print workflows (GFcrew) produce a second, print-specific render — for example a print copy carrying a buy-link QR code. That second image is its own render and is billed separately from the original.
⚠️ REVIEWER: verify the GFcrew buy-link QR second-render feature is live in production before publishing — also verify pricing implications.
What's free
If I send the same render to two places, am I charged twice?
No. A send that reuses an already-finished render is free — you pay when the image is produced, not each time it's delivered or downloaded. One render fanned out to Dropbox, a webhook, and print is still one render charge.
Are retries charged?
No. If a render fails partway and is retried, you're not double-charged. The same goes for Background Removal — a retry never bills the surcharge again.
Is the editor preview billed?
No. The low-resolution preview you see while designing in the editor is always free. Only full-resolution finished renders count.
