This article explains how to tell Templified which physical printer your station sends to — so every print you fire goes to the right machine, not someone else's printer across the room or at another location. Print Locations is available to any organization with a GFITpro connection.
How station routing works
Each physical printer or station is defined as a print location by your org's owner or admin. Every location has a short routing code that ties it to GFITpro behind the scenes. You don't type that code into GFITpro, though — GFITpro pulls your org's locations and lists them by name, and the operator at that machine picks the matching one.
When you pick a location in Templified, every GFITpro print you send from that browser routes to that station. The choice is per-browser, not per-user — whatever machine you're sitting at keeps the same routing no matter who signs in. A shared front-desk computer always prints locally; a laptop you carry from site to site starts fresh with no location set until you pick one.
Pick your location
Set your station from Settings → Print Locations, in the This computer section at the top of the page:
- Open Settings → Print Locations and find the This computer section.
- Click the location picker to open the Where are you printing? dialog.
- Select your station from the list. A checkmark shows the current selection. The first option, Main Event — Route by the design's event code, sends prints by each design's own event code instead of pinning them to a station; picking it clears any station you had set.
- To keep that choice across sessions and sign-ins on this machine, check Keep this location until I change it. Without this, the selection may clear when the browser session ends.
Once you have a location set, a Prints at: [location name] indicator appears above the Send button in the Send To panel — so you can confirm, and switch, your station without leaving the send screen. If no location is set, no indicator appears over the Send button; set one from Settings first.
The selection is per-browser and sticky
Templified stores your location choice in the browser's local storage — not in your account. This means:
- A shared station (front desk, main print computer) picks its location once. Anyone who signs in on that machine inherits the same routing without having to re-select.
- A new browser or a new machine in a different city starts with no location set. It won't inherit a stale routing code from a machine you used last week.
- Private/incognito browsing and cleared browser data will lose the stored selection — use Keep this location until I change it on shared, permanent stations to minimize re-selecting.
When you send a design with no location selected, the print routes by the design's event code instead — the same behavior as before Print Locations was introduced. Nothing breaks if you don't pick a location.
The selection follows each send
Every time you click a preset in the Send To panel or fire Send all, the current station selection rides along with that print job. You don't need to re-confirm your location for each design — pick it once at the start of your session and all your sends from that browser go to the right printer.
If you move between stations mid-session, update your location before your next send: click the Prints at: … indicator and pick the new station.
If you already staged or sent a design, then switch stations and send it again, that queued print re-routes to your newly selected station instead of staying stuck at the old one. So a print you fired before moving isn't stranded at the machine you walked away from — just re-send from the new station and it follows you.
Confirm or change your location from Settings
You can also view and change your location at any time from Settings → Print Locations. The "This computer" section at the top of that page shows your current selection and the same picker described above.
When no station is set, the Settings picker reads Prints at: Main Event with a printer icon — this is the route-by-event-code default, not a warning. (The Send To panel's indicator behaves differently: it stays hidden until you actually pick a station, so operators who never set one keep a clean send bar.)
What owners and admins do first
Before operators can pick a location, someone with owner or admin rights must create the locations in Settings → Print Locations:
- Go to Settings → Print Locations.
- Click New.
- Give the location a Name (e.g. CS Office) and a Routing code (e.g.
CSOFFICE). The routing code is immutable after creation — it's what GFITpro uses to claim that location's prints, so changing it would break routing for that station. - Click Create. In GFITpro at that station, the operator selects this location by name from its picker — GFITpro pulls the list automatically, so there's no code to enter.
Locations can be reordered by drag and individually enabled or disabled. Disabled locations are hidden from the picker.
